Quality over QUANTITY

When you eat at a fine restaurant, you’ll notice the portions are often smaller but more skillfully and artfully prepared than what you will find at a chain restaurant. Fine restaurants focus on quality over quantity. They also use better ingredients. - often local and organic, The cost to dine at these upscale restaurants general costs bit more, too. They are often smaller in size and focusing on creating a fabulous experience for a smaller crowded versus flipping tables and focusing on quantity of customers. I would venture to say the staff is also more in tune with customer service.

Does this sound like another business model as well? To me it’s the model of a small Pilates studio like Surprise Pilates!

BAck Pain

As we wrap up another snowbird season and I come up for air, I realize it’s been a minute since my last blog. It’s something I enjoy doing but when the studio gets so busy, it is something that can be put on hold. We love our snowbirds and miss them when they are gone but now is a chance to play catch up!

Another reason I’ve delayed posting a new blog is because I hurt my back. As a Pilates instructor that is hard to admit!

There are some common questions I am asked at the studio and today I thought I would answer them for anyone reading. I always welcome your questions as they make me consider a different perspective sometimes or confirm that where we are is where we should be! So here we go:

That is where our expectations don't match reality.

Always Pilates

I love Pilates because of how it makes me feel and how it prepares me for all the other things I want to do. I spend my days in the studio preaching good posture, use of the core, engaging abdominal muscles and more. It’s something I am passionate about because I’ve seen the results in myself and so many others. Given this - it might surprise you to know I have realized lately, I wasn’t taking my own advice!

Give the Compliment

I have the unique perspective while I am teaching Pilates to see folks walking by outside entering and exciting the building. I see a parade of different bodies and different levels of fitness. I’ve noticed one of the gals who works in a office a few doors down often walks by getting her steps in. We say hi to each other when we meet in the bathroom or on the sidewalk. Yesterday as she walked by I noticed through the window she seemed to have really slimmed down.

Nice to Meet You!

I’ve moved a few times and with that comes meeting new people. It can take a while to find friends and create a new social circle. I’m always delighted when a new friend or acquaintance invites me to a get together. It’s a chance to meet more people and get to know this friend better.

I’ve realized these get togethers often go one of two ways.

You Do You!

One of the elements I love about Pilates is the fact that it can be modified for just about anybody. If you’ve taken a private or class with me, you have most certainly heard me say, “If anything doesn’t feel right to you, let me know because we can modify it for you!” I firmly believe the work needs to work for you not the other way around.
